You guys know how much we love gingham around here and this gingham bow tie top from Primark takes the cake! This top is one of those very cute from the front, but way cuter from the back tops that’s so easy to dress up or down. Pair it with shorts and sandals for during the day and elevate it with wedges and white or black denim for date night.
For a recent trip to Newbury Street I paired it with minimalistic black Celine accessories, J.Crew wedges and my favorite pair of Joe’s Jeans. Lady and I headed to Newbury for a sweet treat at plant-based Fomu’s pop up shop. We had the lemon pistachio with a gluten free cone, and it was SO, SO good!
I think I may have found the most perfect summer dress: this gingham shirtdress from J.Crew Factory. Not only is it in my two favorite colors, black and white (no surprise there) it’s less than $50! Right now, its $29.50 to be exact!
Once summertime hits, I practically live in dresses. I am especially in love with how effortless, comfortable and easy to dress up or down, depending on your plans this dress is. I paired this gingham shirtdress (also available in a variety of solids) with brown Sam Edelman slides for a casual look to run around town in. I kept the accessories simple with a grey Kendra Scott necklace, black leather strap watch, and I can’t forget my tortoise, reflective sunnies (under $60)!
Even though I’ve been a self proclaimed girly-girl for as long as I can remember, pink has never been a go-to for me, but I’m totally loving this season’s “it” color: blush (more blush picks here). I find myself gravitating towards all spring items in this light, practically-a-neutral hue.
When packing for my trip to London, I was looking for easy-to-wear yet somewhat “dressier” pieces. This blush ruffle sleeve tee does just the trick! I love how soft and comfy it is, making it perfect to wear all-day sightseeing and the trendy ruffle sleeves dress it up a bit. Even though I love feminine elements, my heart (and closet) belong to all things black. I contrasted the light, airy feminine tee with distressed black high-rise skinny jeans and black menswear-inspired loafers.
Last week I was lucky to participate in Legacy Place’s Girls Night Out fashion show to benefit The Ellie Fund. Two hundred women came out to enjoy a night of spring fashion, while raising money and awareness for the non-profit. I was paired with one of my go-to’s, J.Crew to “model” (LOL!) casual spring looks.
My first look was a little out of my comfort zone, mixing a very casual top in a color I wouldn’t normally choose, with a more refined bottom. These ruffled shorts are too cute – it’s hard to tell from the photos but the waist and pockets are lined with feminine ruffles. Half tuck a tee shirt, to dress down the look and have some fun playing up your accesories!
The second look was much more my speed, perfect for a casual Friday at the office. I love the bold color combo of coral and navy, and these high waisted jeans fit perfectly. The elephant print brought in a playful element to this put together look.
For anyone who has been following along on my instagram, I just spent a week in my favorite city ever. Any guesses? No surprise here: London! Ever since I came home from studying abroad two years ago, the wanderlust has been real. The city of royals, tea and red buses has been occupying my mind so when my guy and I realized we had some free time, we hopped on the chance to hop across the pond again!
Besides the diverse culture and beautifulsights on almost every street, one of my favorite things about London is its unique sense offashion. On one corner you’ll see a classic, elegant look featuring loafers and blazers. And on the other, you’ll see a blend of eclectic punk pieces (think vintage leather and Doc Martens). Regardless of individual style, Londoners pick their tried and true pieces and stick to them – their classic essentials. So when stepping out for some sightseeing, I wanted to put together a simple yet chic look.
Layering is key in London. One second, the sun will be shining down in full force and the next, clouds will be rolling in, giving London its stereotypical “gloomy” look. Even though we were heading to tourist spots, I wanted to pretend to blend in as much as possible. I tucked in a classic white button down into high rise jeans. I am totally obsessed with my PAIGE jeans, they’re so comfortable and easy to move around in – perfect for running around the city. I layered on a grey suede moto jacket to add an edge to my look (plus keep warm from London’s temperamental weather). With the menswear trend in full force, loafers are a closet staple and a timeless classic. I picked up this Nine West pair from Saks Off 5th and wore them the entire trip, dressed up and down! To tie together my look, I wrapped on a skinny silk scarf in a black and white pattern to keep my outfit neutral (a Brit’s favorite color scheme).
What’s a trip to London without a trip to see the big guy? Ben there done that.
There’s no denying that blush has taken the (fashion) world and our closets by storm. The light, feminine hue pairs well with just about anything and everything in your closet. Meet Pantone’s subtle take on this season’s “it” color: Pale Dogwood. Think blush with a hint of grey – consider it your new go-to neutral.
Wedding season is right around the corner, you might show up the bride in this lace bell sleeve dress, with delicate detail. Pair with strappy nude heels to complete the look. Plus, at this price point (under $100) you can totally splurge on your bride’s registry.
I’ll take anything ruffled, please. A dressed-up take on the classic t-shirt: this ruffle tee is totally on-trend yet effortless. I also love this light, flowy peplum blouse. Pair with jeans for now or come warmer weather, high waisted denim shorts.
Looking for a more understated way to incorporate this hue into your wardrobe? Swap out your classic stud earrings for these fun, shiny mini tassel drop earrings. Or, for a bolder statement: try these mirrored cat-eye sunnies. Accessory game on point.
Shoulder and sleeve details are so hot right now and this chunky knit has the perfect ruffle shoulder detail, in the girliest shade of pink. I snagged this easy-to-wear Willow and Paige sweater for just $31, on ASOS.com and have been wearing it all season long. ASOS has an awesome selection of unique sweaters that are perfect for when your not feeling your tried and true basics from J.Crew. A little pop of color is the perfect way to brighten up a winter day.
I also can’t get enough of these Dogeared gold-dipped necklaces, worn together for a little extra something something.
Last weekend I took a leaf peeping ride out to the Mohawk Trail in Western Mass to soak up the orange, yellow and red fall foliage. If you’re looking for a mini-weekend getaway, the towns lining the trail are brimming with New England charm, ripe for exploring!
With the cooler weather, I’m constantly reaching for a comfy and cozy sweater. For my road trip, I paired a burgundy French Connection cable-knit sweater (similar) with this denim mini skirt. Pairing a comfy/cozy sweater with a mini skirt or skinny jeans offsets any fears of boxiness. Just add your favorite pair of booties!
During college I spent a few years living in the North End, one of my favorite apartments (yes, there were many) was on a small alley off of Salem Street. Since those days many new restaurants and shops have popped up, but one favorite is still thriving, Shake The Tree, nestled at 67 Salem. Shake The Tree’s owner, Mirian, has had the boutique for nearly 20 years, ten of those in this famous-for-pasta neighborhood.
The boutique is filled with things Marian loves, inspired by her world travels and love for vibrant colors, intricate details and relationships with makers. You’ll find everything you need for an intimate gathering with girlfriends, from what to wear, to bar cart accessories and a drink recipe to whip up with said accessories.
On a recent trip in I fell absolutely in love with this Shearling Vest by Elan Usa. The oversized asymmetrical cut makes this vest extra cozy, like wrapping yourself in a cloud (cliche, I know, I know, but try it on and you’ll agree). I added a Daniel Rainn burgundy top, dark skinny denim and nubuck booties to balance out the look.
Keep up with new arrivals via their instagram here. If you’re driving over, Shake validates parking in Parcel 7 garage above Boston Public Market.
The South Shore Plaza recently hosted a special fall fashion event: Fashion Gives Back to benefit the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. We so often take for granted just how much the little things mean and this incredible organization brings support, and more importantly friendship, to all of its patients and their family members. The fashion-fueled fundraiser not only showcased the latest trends from retailers but it brought to light the impact of the Friends of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Looking to get involved? Some key pieces caught my eye, that you can mix and match all season long. First, a classic hat. Not only will it keep you warm, this accessory is perfect for completing your look. (Never mind, that it can hide those bad hair days, or day three in-between washings!)
I’m especially crushing over Banana Republic’s fall assortment. I love the ease of a simple poncho, the perfect throw-on-and-go topper while still making you look put together. My go-to outfit right now is a poncho over leggings: so easy and so comfortable. This season, over the knee boots are everywhere. Create a flirty look by wearing these with a skirt and exposing just a little thigh, or throw them on over skinny jeans, the more stretchy the pair, the easier it will be to create a streamlined silhouette.
A classic staple for all men, especially come fall, is a plaid blazer. Pair with dress pants for a sharp, “ready to tackle that big meeting” look or with dark jeans for a more laidback vibe. Your guy is sure to win best dressed with this preppy piece. Between the plaid poncho + blazer combo, date night styling = mastered.
And I can’t get away without mentioning (read: lusting over) COACH’s new collection. Shauna can’t either! You’ve got to appreciate the handcrafted details, with rich textures and colors.
